There are still lot's of doom and gloom people predicting a crash of .com registrations as well as a fall in short domain prices, below is a quote from one of the online boards.
" I still consider the low quality lll.com's to be near the peak (even though they have been falling recently), very happy to cash out at current prices considering the rest of the market has taken a caning. I paid $750 for those 5 names in 2002." (The poster was referring to a recent sale of 5 of his LLL.com's for a little over $30,000.)
I'm sorry, but I don't understand his doom and gloom and I'm from the USA where we are in a small recession. If I had invested only $750 in 5 domains just 6 years ago, and sold them a few days ago, I'd be singing the praises of investing in LLL.coms. However, perhaps he knows something, which I don't. Yes, I know that the economy of the USA is in decline, prices are rising and my money doesn't buy as much now days. However, being old...uh...I mean older that most domainer's. I've seen the economy go down and up many times.
.com however is not a product of the USA only, it is a world-wide marketplace. Through a lot of research, I have pricing charts for every short .com, letters and numbers dating back to 1998. This includes LL.com, LLL.com, LLLL.com, L-L.com, NN.com, NNN.com, NNNN.com and more and according to my research, the .com tends to increase over time regardless of what is happening in the US. 1998 0 <----Internet Boom 1999 0 <----Internet Boom, US Company Registers aLL LLLL.com domains 2000 50 <---World Trade Center,US Company Releases all LLLL.com domains 2001 250 < ---Falling Economy, Dollar Begins Spiraling Downward,War in Afghanistan, .com Crash/Internet Boom goes Bust 2002 500 <-----Crisis in Iraq, Corporate Scandals 2003 750 <-----War in Iraq, Loss of Space Shuttle Columbia 2004 1500 <----Presidential Election 2005 2750 <----Hurricane Katrina 2006 5000 <----War in Iraq, North Korea Nuclear Testing 2007 6500 <----Collapsing Housing Market 2008 7500 <----High Gas Prices
On top of all the above wars, recession and gloom, ICANN has released over 200 new names .us, .eu, .mobi, .pro, .travel, .biz, .name, .ws, .me. .cn, .de, ....
Yet, the .com continues to rise in value and cost.
Will the .com continue to rise, will values get even higher, or will prices plumment? Unfortunately I just do not know.
However, in 2008 .com show's the highest growth of any other TLD for active web pages.
